As you know, I study journalism in the famous Instituto de la Comunicación e Imagen, I am in my last year of career and, I if I could, I would change many things in the career programme.
First of all the lenght of the study programme. I think five years are too much for studying journalism, it is a career that you can study in three years or maybe four. It all needs to be reforced with a lot of practice, because I think that is where you learn the most. For example, in my proffessional practice I learnt more than I have learnt in the past four years.
The subjects are okey, but maybe include more econimic and political journalism. I think we don´t have enought skills to face the real world as journalists with the knowledge we have in that subjects. I think a journalist has know about everything, and I am really far away from that hahaha.
I think the workload of study is enough, maybe a little bit too relax in some semesters. For example, on the second year of the career we have only three classes in one semester, but on third year we have around six. So maybe a better distribution of the classes would be a good change in the programme.
Also the infrastructure is really deficient. We have like six classrooms for over 800 students. Eventhough we have lecture rooms next to the institute, we should have classes in our own building. In sum to that, the tecnology that we have access to is not the best one. I am not asking for the last computer that came out or a flat screen television, but maybe, just maybe, we should have internet that works. Also we are students that are used to work with cameras and is a common problem that there are not enough for everyone.
Non the less, I think the teaching methods are good, it depends on each teacher though, but I can say that the teachers that have taught me have good teaching methods (specially the english teacher haha). But I think we should have more practice, because when we have to go to our proffesional practice we don't know many of the stuff we have to do.
Apart from all of that, I think I am kind of prepare to face next year working as a journalist. As I said before, we learn from practice, and practice makes perfect. Lets hope this study programme has made a good proffesional out of me.
The internet in this room is very awful, I am trying to comment you since one hour!
